Water for drinking, hygiene and sustainable food sources
As the Holy Month of Ramadhan nears, on World Water Day, 22 March 2021, we were delighted to have been able to share the easy as 1-2-3 update to the LFT’s #MakeASplash campaign.
1. Green energy for clean water – over 25,000 litres of fresh water now available every day at the Nungwi Schools and Makunduchi Hospital in Zanzibar from two solar powered desalination units..
2. Good crops, high school attendance and eliminating water borne disease – on the island of Pemba nearly 100,000 residents now have water on their doorstep thanks to an LFT water installation.
3. over 100 farms growing crops and harvesting food to feed the desert dwellers in Thar Desert Sindh with fresh locally grown crops that are in season and part of their staple diet in addition to a supply of fresh water.
Projects in Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan and Zanzibar are ongoing as are initiatives in four villages on Pemba island to support residents to receive 5,000 litre water storage tanks each and a supply of clean water all year round, eliminating the grinding daily walk for water and vulnerability disease.
